Emergency Dental Care Owings Mills Dentist
Dental Emergencies
When you experience a dental emergency, you deserve prompt care. The compassionate team at Crossroads Dental Arts is experienced in treating dental emergencies.
Immediate dental care is necessary in the following circumstances:
– Your tooth is painful
– Your tooth has been completely knocked out
– A large portion of your tooth is missing
– There is swelling in your mouth
These cases should be treated as soon as possible to mitigate further damage and discomfort.
Choose Our Team, Not the Emergency Room
When you experience a dental emergency, you may think the emergency room is an ideal option for quick treatment. According to an estimate by the American Dental Association, someone visits the emergency room with a dental related issue every 15 seconds.
Generally, this is not advisable. The emergency room is usually not staffed or equipped to handle dental emergencies or trauma. Our office not only has a team of experienced dental care professionals, we also have the equipment, tools, and technology that allow for quicker, more efficient, and more comfortable dental care. We encourage you to contact the Crossroads Dental Arts team in Owings Mills before visiting the emergency room.
Managing Your Injury
If one of your permanent teeth has been knocked out, it is important to keep it as moist as possible while you contact us. You may, without touching the roots, gently place the tooth in its socket. Strangely enough, milk can also be used as a temporary preservative for a knocked-out tooth.
If your tooth has cracked, gently rinse your mouth with warm water. It is necessary to keep the area clean to avoid infection. If swelling is occurring, hold a cold compress over the area on your face to reduce swelling.
When Can It Wait?
Minor chips and cracks are usually not an emergency. However, we do suggest making an appointment as soon as possible to prevent the injury from becoming worse. Additionally, minor tooth aches or areas of your tongue or lip that you have accidentally bitten are not usually cause for immediate concern. If discomfort or bleeding persists, please contact our team.
